Some common questions answered to get you started.

Brand Positioning

Difference between positioning and strategy
What's the difference between brand positioning and a brand strategy?

They're closely related, but positioning is about where you stand in the market - your unique spot that nobody else owns. Strategy is about how you're going to get there and what you'll do to maintain that position. Think of positioning as your "what" and "why," whilst strategy is your "how." Both are crucial, and they work together to create a brand that actually makes business sense.

Is it too late to fix our positioning
We've been in business for years. Is it too late to fix our positioning?

Not at all. In fact, established businesses often have an advantage - you've got real customer data, actual conversations, and proper insights about what works and what doesn't. The tricky bit is that you're probably so close to your business that you can't see the positioning gaps anymore. That's normal. Sometimes it just takes fresh eyes and the right questions to uncover what's been hiding in plain sight.

Is it too early for brand positioning
I'm just starting out. Isn't it too early for brand positioning?

Interesting question. Here's what I often see: startups who skip positioning end up spending twice as much time and money fixing things later. They build websites, create content, start marketing - all whilst aiming at a blurry target. Getting positioning right early means everything else flows naturally. You know exactly who you're talking to, what to say, and how to say it. It's actually the perfect time, before you've built habits that are hard to change.

How do I know if I have a positioning problem
How do I know if I have a positioning problem?

Can you explain what makes you different in one sentence? Can your team? Do potential clients 'get it' straight away, or do you find yourself explaining. over and over again? If sales conversations feel harder than they should, if you're constantly competing on price, or if you're attracting enquiries from people who aren't quite right - those are usually signs that your brand positioning needs some TLC.

What exactly is brand positioning
What exactly is brand positioning, and why does it matter more than a nice logo?

Ever notice how some brands just... click? You instantly get what they're about, who they're for, and why they're different. That's positioning at work. Brand positioning is about figuring out exactly where you fit in your market and in people's minds. It's the foundation that everything else sits on - your messaging, your visuals, your website, the whole lot. Without it, you're essentially building a beautiful house on sand. The logo might look brilliant, the website might be gorgeous, but if you can't clearly explain why someone should pick you over someone cheaper, all that pretty design is doing a lot of heavy lifting for not much result.

Brand Identity & Design

What if I do not like initial designs
What if I don't like the initial designs?

That's what the refinement stages are for. Good design is collaborative, not mind-reading. We'll work together to dial things in until they feel spot-on. Usually, when designs miss the mark initially, it's because we haven't quite nailed the positioning yet. That's why starting with positioning clarity makes the design process so much smoother.

Will I own all design files
Will I own all the design files?

Absolutely. Once the project is wrapped up and paid for, you own everything - all the original design files, fonts (with proper licences), images, the works. You'll be able to share them with printers, developers, or anyone else who needs them.

What is included in brand identity
What's actually included in a brand identity?

The full package includes your positioning strategy, logo system, colour palette, typography, visual style, tone of voice guidelines, and applications across various touchpoints. You'll also get a comprehensive brand book that shows your team exactly how to use everything consistently. Think of it as a complete toolkit that makes every future design decision easier and more consistent.

How long does brand identity take
How long does a brand identity project typically take?

For a complete brand identity - from positioning through to final visual system and brand book - we're usually looking at 8-12 weeks. That includes proper discovery, positioning work, design development, refinement, and creating all the bits and pieces you need. If you've already got solid positioning sorted, we can crack on with just the visual identity, which typically takes 4-6 weeks.

Can I just get a logo without positioning
Can't I just get a logo designed without all the positioning stuff?

You could, absolutely. Whether you should is a different question. Here's what tends to happen: without positioning clarity, you end up with a logo that looks nice but doesn't really say anything meaningful about your business. It becomes a decoration rather than a tool that helps people understand and remember what makes you special. It's a bit like buying an expensive suit before you know what job you're interviewing for.

Webflow & Websites

Do you write website copy
Do you write the website copy, or do I need to provide it?

We can work either way. Some clients come with copy ready to go, others need help crafting the messaging. If you need copywriting, we can collaborate on creating content that actually sounds like you and speaks directly to the right people. Worth mentioning though - good website copy is much easier to write when positioning is clear. Everything flows from there.

What if something breaks on website
What happens if something breaks on my website?

With Webflow, things rarely break because there aren't plugins to update or security patches to install. That said, we offer ongoing support packages if you want the peace of mind of having us available to handle any technical bits or updates you need.

How long does website project take
How long does a website project take?

A typical high-end Webflow site takes 6-10 weeks from start to launch. That includes discovery, design, development, content loading, testing, and training. If you've already got your brand positioning and identity sorted, and content ready to go, we can move faster. If we're starting from scratch with everything, factor in a few extra weeks.

Can I update website myself
Can I update the website myself after it's built?

Yes, that's one of the brilliant things about Webflow. We build sites so you can easily update content - text, images, blog posts - without touching any code. It's intuitive enough that most people get comfortable with it after a quick training session. If you want to add new sections or change layouts, that's when you'd want to bring us back in.

Why Webflow instead of WordPress
Why Webflow instead of WordPress or other platforms?

Webflow gives us the freedom to create truly custom experiences without the limitations and security headaches that come with WordPress. Sites are lightning-fast, responsive, and once we hand over the keys, you can update content yourself without needing a developer on speed dial. It's also more secure, easier to maintain, and the hosting is already sorted. No plugin updates breaking your site at 2am.

Working together

Do you have availability
Do you have availability? How far out are you booked?

Best to drop me a message for current availability. Depending on the time of year and project pipeline, we're usually booking 3-6 weeks ahead for new projects. If you've got a specific launch date or deadline, let's have a chat about whether we can make it work.

What is your process like
What's your process like? How involved will I need to be?

Pretty involved, actually, especially at the start. Brand positioning requires your insights - nobody knows your business better than you do. We're here to ask the right questions and help you see things from fresh angles. Once we've nailed positioning, the design phase is more about feedback and refinement. You'll see work-in-progress, share thoughts, and we'll iterate together until it's bang on.

What types of businesses do you work with
What types of businesses do you work with?

We specifically work with impact-driven brands - businesses that are trying to make a real difference, whether that's environmental, social, or cultural. Typically purpose-driven startups, sustainable businesses, social enterprises, and established companies ready to align their brand with their values. If you're purely profit-driven with no real mission, we're probably not the right fit.

What makes you different from other designers
What makes you different from other brand designers?

Honest answer? We start with uncomfortable questions instead of pretty pictures. Most designers will ask what colours you like. We'll ask why someone should pick you over someone cheaper. We're obsessed with positioning first, design second. Because a beautiful brand that doesn't say anything meaningful is just expensive wallpaper.

Getting Started

How do I get started
How do I get started?

Simple - drop me a message through the contact form or send an email. We'll arrange a call to chat about your project, figure out if we're a good fit, and take it from there. No pressure, no hard sell. If it makes sense to work together, brilliant. If not, I'm happy to point you in the right direction.

What if we are not based in Netherlands
What if we're not based in the Netherlands?

No problem at all. We work with clients globally. Most communication happens via video calls and email anyway, which works brilliantly regardless of location. The work is the same whether you're in Amsterdam or Auckland. Time zones can be a bit of a dance, but we're pretty flexible and make it work.

Do you offer ongoing support
Do you offer ongoing support after the project ends?

Yes, we offer retainer packages for ongoing design work, website updates, and brand development. Some clients want us available for ad-hoc bits and pieces, others need consistent support as they grow. We can tailor something that makes sense for your business.

Can you help if we are not sure what we need
Can you help if we're not sure exactly what we need?

Absolutely. That's often the best place to start. We can begin with a discovery session to figure out what's actually holding your brand back and what would make the biggest difference. Sometimes clients come thinking they need a rebrand when they actually just need positioning clarity. Sometimes it's the opposite. Let's figure it out together.

What do I need ready before we start
What do I need to have ready before we start?

Honestly? Just an open mind and willingness to ask difficult questions about your business. We'll guide you through everything else. If you've got existing materials (current website, competitor research, customer feedback), that's helpful. But we've started successful projects with nothing more than a conversation and a handful of honest answers.
